My environmental sensibilities started early. When I was a teenager, I subscribed to Organic Gardening Magazine and tended our family's vegetable garden.
I have been a Sierra Club member for almost 20 years. I have regularly led groups into the wilderness on Sierra Club trips. Twice, I've lead groups to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as part of an effort to educate people about the beauty and value of this last, largest American open space with the goal of building advocates for designating it a wilderness area. You can read the description of my latest trip
here.
I co-founded the now 150 member-strong Albany Strollers and Rollers, a citizen's group advocating for human-scale transit in Albany (walking, bicycling, etc.). Human-scale transit (bicycling, walking, etc.) helps get cars off the road and reduces carbon emissions.
I am a member of Friends of Five Creeks and a strong supporter of their work to enhance Albany's creeks. Besides this group and the Sierra Club, I am also a member of a dozen environmental organizations such as the Environmental Defense Fund and the National Resources Defense Council.
I am personally committed to the environment. I choose sustainable transit by biking, walking, skating and taking public transportation regularly. I am choosing sustainable construction by installing a solar hot water system, solar electric panels, and a gray water system in my home during remodeling.
